Fabric Paints are best for working with fibers, mixed media, and surface design. We stock Jacquard and Speedball products as well as a variety of acrylic paints, inks, and mediums suitable for use on fabrics. Fabric Painting is the process of applying color to fabric in definite patterns, designs, and simple solid colors.
Jacquard carries all sorts of fabric paints and dyes for all kinds of fabric.
Acid Dyes |
Acid dyes are used to color silk and wool and other protein fibers (as well as some nylons) it is extremely brilliant and colorfast. They are highly concentrated, powdered hot water dyes that produce level, uniform color when immersion dyeing. They exhaust extremely well and won’t bleed or fade with washing. Acid dyes are known to produce the most vibrant colors of all in both quality and intensity. In addition to yarn, fiber and fabric dyeing, Jacquard Acid Dyes may also be used for direct painting or printing applications, using steam setting. |
Dye-na-Flow |
Dye-na-Flow is a highly saturated, highly transparent fluid acrylic paint that is permanent on any porous or semi-porous surface, including natural and synthetic fabrics, and in many ways simulates a true dye. Dye-Na-Flow spreads on fabric until it is thoroughly absorbed and even, sinking into the fibers like a dye instead of sitting on the surface like thicker inks and paints. The colors are intense, washfast and will not change the feel of the fabric. Dye-Na-Flow is versatile and may be used for many diverse applications, from silk painting to wood staining. |
iDye/Poly |
iDye comes in a dissolvable packet, so there are never any messy powders to handle: simply dissolve the packet in the dye bath or drop it in the washer, then add the fabric. iDye is a hot water dye that produces brilliant colors on any natural fabric and may be used on the stovetop or in the washing machine.iDye Poly is for synthetic fibers such as polyester and nylon. It will color almost anything synthetic, including plastics and acrylics, buttons, frisbee discs, 3D printed objects, toys, dolls, wigs, urethane coatings and more! iDye Poly also comes in a dissolvable packet, so there are never any messy powders to handle: simply drop the packet in a pot of water, add your fabric or objects and bring to a boil! |
Lumiere |
This stunning assortment of light-bodied metallic and pearlescent paints brush on smoothly and are formulated to last. They won’t crack, peel or chip, even on flexible surfaces like fabric, leather, vinyl or rubber. Soft to the touch and washfast on fabric, Lumiere paints also exhibit unparalleled adhesive properties, even on non-porous surfaces like ceramic and metal. Lumiere colors are lightfast and weather resistant and their high pigmentation provides excellent coverage, even on dark grounds. |
Neopaque |
Neopaque shares many characteristics with Lumiere but is not pearlescent. Formulated for maximum coverage on dark grounds, these highly pigmented opaque paints are durable, flexible and soft on a variety of surfaces, including fabric, leather, clay and canvas. In order to increase transparency, mix with a 579 Extender.

Pearl Ex Powdered Pigments |
Pearl Ex Powdered Pigments can be used for any metallic or pearlescent effect that is desired: mix them into acrylics, oils, printing inks, encaustics, alcohol inks, epoxy, glues, casting resins, clay, varnishes and more. When mixed with Gum Arabic it can be used as a metallic calligraphy ink or watercolor, with Pearl Ex Varnish for working on non-porous surfaces, or mixed into one of Jacquard’s colorless extenders for use on fabric. Pearl Ex is a safe, inert pigment that exhibits extreme colorfastness and stability. The different particle sizes produce different effects, from a smooth pearly luster, to a highly metallic sheen. Pearl Ex creates a metallic effect without being a real metal it will never tarnish or fade! |
Procion MX |
Procion MX dyes are “cold water dyes” that do not require heat. This technique makes it the most popular product for backyard dyeing, batik and tie dye. Since it is a cold water dye, it is also perfect for shibori, ice dyeing, tub and low water immersion dyeing, printing, direct painting and other “alternative” dye applications. Mix the concentrated dye powder with warm tap water to create the most vibrant of all colors for cotton, linen and other plant-based fabrics. Procion MX dyes are typically used with a soda ash fixative, which can be added directly to the dye bath or used to pre-treat the fabric, as in tie dyeing. |
Solarfast |
SolarFast dyes are light-sensitive and only develop color and become permanent upon exposure to sunlight (UV). This unique property means SolarFast may be used to create remarkably detailed photographs, photograms and shadow-prints on paper or fabric by harnessing the power of the sun! Anything you place on the painted surface to block the light will create a print in a matter of minutes, whether that’s a solid object (toys, tools, plants, lace, etc.), a photographic negative (an image digitally printed onto a transparency) or shadow (from folds in the fabric or a 3D object). SolarFast is also great for painting, tie dyeing, screen printing, stamping, batik and more—no heat setting, chemical or steam fixing necessary. The dye leaves fabric completely soft to the touch. On paper, SolarFast has zero relief and will not affect the texture of the surface whatsoever, making it a powerful tool for mixed-media arts. |
Textile Color |
Textile Color is the artist’s standard for professional-quality fabric paint they leave fabric as soft as possible and stand up exceptionally well to washing. It can be applied straight from the bottle, the color is intense and semi-opaque.By adding water it can increase transparency and reduce viscosity. By mixing with Colorless Extender #100 it is possible to achieve any degree of transparency without affecting viscosity and by mixing with white #123 colors become more pastel like. Textile Colors are washable and colorfast on natural and synthetic fabrics, as well as on other porous and semi-porous surfaces. |
